Coaches Bio

Wesley Schroeder - Head Coach

 In 2024, Wes Schroeder will be the 3rd head football coach at Olentangy Orange High School. Coach Schroeder has been a head coach for the previous six years at Allen East High School and Granville High School compiling a 52-15 overall record and 7-5 playoff record. Coach Schroeder is 2004 graduate of Leipsic High School and has had assistant coaching stops at Leipsic, Lima Senior and Olentangy Liberty. He has a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education and also holds a Master’s degree in both Special Education and Education Administration. Currently, Coach Schroeder is teaching Physical Education and Apex Online Learning at Orange High School. Coach Schroeder resides in Delaware with his wife Traci and Daughters Aisley, Anya, Alani and Ara.

Brock Bolden - Defensive Coordinator

Coach Bolden, will join the Orange High School football staff for his first season in 2024. Prior to coming to Orange Coach Bolden spent the past four years coaching football at Granville High School. Along with coaching football Coach Bolden is also on the OOHS baseball staff and was previously the head baseball coach at Granville High School for three seasons. Coach Bolden currently teaches Science and Math at Orange middle school. Coach Bolden and his wife, Jordan, reside in Pataskala with their daughter Sawyer and son Rhet.

Ed Miley - Offensive Line

Coach Miley returns to the Olentangy School District as an assistant coach after spending the last two seasons as the head coach at Westerville Central. Prior to becoming the head coach at Westerville Central Coach Miley was an assistant at Olentangy Liberty for eight seasons and helped Liberty win three regional championships. In 2007, Coach Miley was named the head coach at Marlington High School where he spent seven seasons. As a head coach Coach Miley has compiled a 63-37, including a regional championship in 2010. Coach Miley resides in Powell with his wife Denise and they have two adult children Chase in South Carolina and Drew a student at the University of Cincinnati.

 

Tate Borlik - Wide Receivers

Coach Borlik is entering his 8th year of coaching, with this 2024 season being his first with the Pioneers. He will be helping with the Wide Receivers. Coach Borlik graduated from Saint Josephs College (DII) in 2015, where he was a three-year starter at Quarterback and received his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Coach Borlik began his coaching career at Minot State University (DII) as an assistant coach, where he received his master’s degree in management. After two seasons with Minot State, Coach Borlik continued his collegiate coaching career at Defiance College (DIII). Coach Borlik then began his high school coaching career at Newark Catholic, and then most recently Granville High School. Coach Borlik resides in Newark with his wife, Brenna. 

 

Nic Melsop - Running Backs

Coach Melsop, a 2016 graduate of Olentangy Orange, will be entering his first year of coaching. He will be helping with Running Backs. Coach Melsop went on to graduate from Delta State University in 2021, where he was a three-year starter at Right Tackle with the honors of being a 1st team All-American. He also received his Bachelor’s degree in HPER and Sports Management. After his final season at Delta State University, Coach Melsop went on to pursue the NFL and became a member of the Los Angeles Chargers where he was with them for the 2023-2024 season. Coach Melsop is working on finishing his Master’s in Sports Management through Delta State’s online program. He now resides in Delaware Ohio with his Fiancé.

 

Bobby Roth - Defensive Line / Special Teams

Coach Roth is entering his 11th season with the Pioneers, 24th season overall. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics from Baldwin-Wallace University in 2000, while contributing as a 3 year letter winner of the Yellow Jackets football program. He went on to receive his M.Ed. in Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education from The Ohio State University in 2001. Coach Roth has taught mathematics at Orange High School for 11 years and teaching for 23 years overall.  He resides in Lewis Center with his wife Stacey Roth and  two children, Bode (14) and Brynlin (12).

 

Brady Ford - Defensive Line

Coach Ford is entering into his 2nd season with the Olentangy Orange program, and his 7th season overall. Before coming to Orange, coach Ford has stops at Columbus South high school, Briggs high school and Walnut Ridge where he graduated in 2013. He continued his playing career at Wittenberg University (DIII) where he obtained his bachelor's degree in exercise science and psychology in 2017. Coach Ford has spent the last 6 years as an Instructional Assistant in Columbus City Schools. In the fall Coach Ford will be making the transition to Orange high school as a job coach for our students. He currently resides in Groveport with his wife Alexis and two sons Hezekiah and Braylon. 

 

Matt Stephens - Linebackers

Coach Stephens is entering 27th year of coaching, with this 2024 season being his first with the Pioneers. Coach Stephens has been a head coach for the previous 14 years; Buckeye Valley High School (10) and Cardington-Lincoln High School (4). Coach Stephens is 1992 graduate of Otterbein University where he was 4 letterman at defensive back. Coach Stephens has had assistant coaching stops at Otterbein University, Olentangy Liberty and Cardington. He has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Elementary Education and serves as an Intervention Specialist at Buckeye Valley HS. He resides in Lewis Center with his wife Kathryn and their three children Trey, Connor and Tori.

Pat Daugherty - JV Defensive Coordinator / Defensive Backs

Coach Daugherty is coming into his 7th season with the Olentangy Orange  program, and his 12th season overall with previous stops at Big Walnut, Crestline, and Ontario. Coach Daugherty graduated from Big Walnut in 2009 and was a member of the state championship football team there and the winningest class in school history (44-8). After high school he continued his playing career at Otterbein University, graduating in 2013 with a bachelors in Life Sciences with a focus in general biology. He has prior experience coaching running backs, wide receivers, defensive backs, linebackers, special teams coordinator, head freshman coach, and JV defensive coordinator. He currently teaches Biology and Forensics at Orange HS and also coaches for the Orange girls wrestling team and is the sprint and long jump coach for the Orange boys track team. 

 

Anthony Griffin - Defensive Backs 

Coach Griffin is beginning his 2nd year as part of the Pioneer staff, moving from Offense to Defense. Before becoming a Pioneer, he coached at Olentangy Berlin, Franklin Heights, Otterbein University, and other local schools. Coach Griffin played football and ran track at the University of Toledo, where he studied Education and Communication. He teaches 7th grade Social Studies and Science at Woodward Park Middle School in Columbus City Schools. He and his wife, Lauren, live in Sunbury with their daughter, Gia, and two dogs, Brutus and Lucy.

Eric Krauss - Defensive Backs

Coach Krauss is in his first year with the Pioneer staff. He is a 2000 graduate of Patrick Henry HS where he was a volunteer assistant coach in 2004 and 2005 (D5 State Champs).  He is a 2004 graduate of the University of Findlay where he was a 3-year starting Safety after beginning his career with the Oilers as a walk-on.  He has spent the past decade coaching various levels of youth sports. He currently resides in Lewis Center with his wife Krista.  They have 3 children in the Olentangy School District: Griffin-7th grade at Orange MS, Jocelyn-5th grade and Carson-Kindergarten at Oak Creek ES.

 

Freshmen Staff

 

Jack Fenton - Head Freshman Coach

Coach Fenton, a 2020 graduate of Olentangy Orange, will be returning for his 3rd year on the Freshmen staff, first year as Head Coach. He is finishing up school at The Ohio State University majoring in Special Eductaion. Coach Fenton played 1 year of College Football at Heidelberg University (DIII) in Tiffin Ohio.  

 

Aaron Crabtree- Freshman Defensive Coordinator 

Coach Crabtree is beginning his 16th year as a high school football coach.  He spent 12 years coaching at Chillicothe High School (his Alma mater).  Coach Crabtree spent 10 years learning from and coaching under Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Famers Ron Hinton And Jeff Arndt.  He spent three years coaching at Big Walnut before joining the Orange staff last year.  Coach Crabtree and his wife, Gretchen, have 3 children, 24 year old Chelsea is married to an Air Force Staff Sergeant, graduated from The Ohio State University with honors and is currently getting her master’s degree as a BCBA, 14 year old Larkin will be a freshman at Orange High School who plays baseball, wrestles, and football, and 13 year old Kennedy who will be an 8th grader at Berkshire Middle School and plays soccer for Club Ohio and plays basketball at Berkshire.  Coach Crabtree is an Intervention Specialist at Ventures Academy and alternative school for students who have emotional disabilities run by the Education Service Center of Central Ohio.  He teaches high school math and science.

 

Sam Almond - Freshmen Offensive Coordinator

Coach Almond, a 2017 graduate of Olentangy Orange, will be returning this fall as the Freshman Offensive Coordinator and will also be teaching US History and Economics. He has spent the previous 2 years teaching history and coaching at St. Charles Preparatory School as a Varsity Assistant and JV/Freshman Head Coach. Coach Almond received a bachelor’s degree in Integrated Social Studies Education from Miami University and is working on a Masters in American History & Government from Ashland University.

Shae White - Freshman RB/DB & Media Coordinator

Coach White is returning to the sideline for his second year of coaching running backs and excited to bring the energy to the field this year. Coach White specializes in personal training, boxing and owns a media company. He lives in Lewis Center with his wife Nicole, three children Luca, Julian and Penelope and dog, Kobe.
